Whom Do You Serve?

Jeremiah 1:6-9
Then said I, Ah, Lord God! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
That makes no sense to anyone at first. I mean, how else is the Lord going to send forth something small that likely needs a great deal of care. Perhaps you may have noticed some children grow up faster than others it seems. To some they almost get overlooked by society and downtrodden easily. Yet here the Lord has come to give this child a voice. His name was Jeremiah, and he would later become known as a prophet. But right here at this time now, we know very little of his situation. His name meant what some believe to be God lifted up. Now when God does just what he says, he will draw all men unto himself. Therein lay Jeremiah’s mission, a tall order for a young boy who now faced all sorts of danger. Perhaps you may understand, having been in a similar position yourself.
But the Lord said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
Oh dear Jeremiah, full of little faith and little of stature himself. You know, when you have a problem too big for you, take it to the one who will carry you through. We see that is Jeremiah’s place here. There is then a refuge taller than him, and it is to this place now that he has ran. Whether you be young or old, God has a message waiting. Chances are it is just for you, but not all of it. Some of it is simply waiting to be shared just as a tool is when placed in the Master’s hands. So Jeremiah found both now and later as an adult that God was right all along. For if God sent him, there was little else that man could do about it. So, you see that his little place has given way to fear.
Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.
Often the world can look quite scary from a little point of view. Without realizing it, some grown-ups have become guilty of this themself. The Lord is always ready to deliver his people from your face, someone else’s, or perhaps even his own. This is why you should not fear, because our Lord himself is always near. Then it came to be that wherever Jeremiah went, all he had to do was keep this in mind. The Lord was with him; his deliverance was near. One he would have done well to remember when entrusted with a terrible message. How often some of us are so prone to forget the nearness of God. He can be trusted, better even than any earthly Father. See, the moms and dads of this world so often can let you down. But God almighty never will.
Then the Lord put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
If he has called you, he will also equip you to do it. That is just a fancy way of saying that he makes you able to bear his message. It seems that young Jeremiah had a certain issue. His speech was not ready or able enough. Whatever things had been in his life had surely affected his speech. Being powerless and unheard can do much for a life. It seems then that his healing is needed. For God supplies everything that there is to be found. For the speech then there came a supply. Now Jeremiah had a message and a purpose to find. In all the issues then, there God would lead him.
