What Of The End?
Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?
See how much higher the Lord's ways are than those of our own. It seems that all of Heaven itself cannot contain him, much less this house that has been built. See, it's not about what is bigger or smaller whether of Heaven or God's house. But when it comes right on down to the house of the Lord, best to let him determine the size of his own house or to shape it himself. By his own hand were the worlds formed and at the power of the spoken Word do all things hold in place. At his rebuke also these do tremble or at the very last vanish away. In all the splendor of our God, it seems quite a silly thing indeed to assign him a house, as though one had captured him or was fencing him in. Come on, now.
God is the God who fills things whether those of Heaven or earth or even those of his house. Yet now what of the house for it is not found. Then again, what of the place of his rest. Remember, the foxes which once had someplace to go, as into their holes or their nests like the birds. Yet where is the place that our God has set up for him to inhabit. So too does the swallow find place to raise her young up near his throne. But what of the Christ who has wandered all over creation seeking his sheep. Footsore and weary he is seeking his sleep. Where then shall he find his rest as though for the weary. When he came so long ago, he had none you know. I know some of you like to talk about how unfair it is whether this thing or that.
For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
Sure, you might be tempted to remain there in that state. But when God has called you, you're coming on out. See how our God never gets weary or tired nor yet takes for himself vacation. He is seated up on the great throne of Heaven with his feet outstretched over the whole earth. It is his footstool you know, a place to put his feet up. As seen before, knowing the feet of the Lord implies being part of his work. So too there is some owning and ruling yet to be seen. How intimately does God know his people. From their sittings and their goings from birth to the grave are these well-known to the Lord. Considering all this you might as well say 'abide with me Lord.'
So often we want the blessing, the power that comes along with it, or even the promise of God. In doing so, have we ever really stopped to think what God would require besides sacrifices which God does not want. Then again could you bring sacrifices as ought such of yourself. For herein are these found even those of the pure heart and contrite spirit, who is meek and lowly of heart. It is these poor in spirit who are found of the kingdom. Notice how the vessels once carried through the temple now sit idly by, waiting as though for the Master's bidding. Might well you wonder when he would have need of these, even that of the body, the temple.
What of it then, this God who neither slumbers nor sleeps nor ever gets tired and weary. See him now as he sits on his throne up above and keeps watching over his people. My, such is a good thing indeed for now I can rest knowing that we are even now held in his hands and kept by his care. Yet what then of the providing and of his rest which he needs. Shall he then come and make his home with us in days of old as at the last. Shall he fill us then as his vessels unto every good work. So let us trust him then and let God do the rest. In all this trying and striving, we are so quick to forget the God that keeps us and reigns over all. So, then I pray that we all find the stillness of God so that in him we might rest.
He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. Revelation 22:11
