Things to Come
11/02/2024
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.
Hebrews 2:3-5
Herein lies the mystery of the care of God for his children. Before we had talked about the ministry of angels and how it all fit together. But we have not seen there as revealed now the complete burden of the life yet to come. So there is a great salvation spoken of in the text that is here to be seen. Herein are you all found to be witnesses, by the very fact it has been shown thus far. It is a burden on the hearer, if you will, of what was once spoken in ages long passed. For this very cause though that the ones to come might ring with his praise. What good is it then if the God who has called us does not forth his people. Is it not found in “Lazarus come forth,” except the one that raises us is him. Some of us would do well to heed his call to come out of Egypt, out of the slough of despond, out of sickness, darkness, out from despair, and even out into his own marvelous light. It is a light out of darkness if you will that once shone among men. But the darkness, you see, comprehended it not. Here the lack of comprehension speaks to their understanding of the matter. It is hard to be saved if you know not from what. Sure, we all expect one day to obtain our salvation from the world, the flesh, and the devil. Could it be the thing we need saving from so often be something outside of ourselves, maybe a little bit more. When it comes to the salvation of the Lord then it can hardly be called great unless we had seen the magnitude of it as at first. Herein is found the mystery of the shortened arm of the Lord. See, it is not that he could not save, but rather there are some sins separating you and him. Such was the case in the garden so long ago, when Adam and Eve were in need of coverings to walk with the Lord. For this then made he atonement, first of the animal that later would speak of his blood. It is this precious blood of the Lord then that keeps right on cleansing us from all sin. How precious though is the blood that has never, no not for a moment, lost none of its power. Notice the solitary witness as seen in the text, even that of our Lord. He is as that voice out in the wilderness of John’s gospel that speaks of none save himself. How important catching sight of this lone witness is to more perfectly understand the rest of the text. It is a voice that has come before judgement and those of his generation that speaks more perfectly of the life to come. So are there also some hearers that have become witnesses to the truth thereof whether willing or no. How many of you can say you have heard the voice of the Lord today. Rather as all things should be spoken by that witness seen of today lest tomorrow forever be too late. He speaks to all who would listen, does he not my friends. Whether you will yet hear it or no allows the hearers of the Word thereby to enter on in. But then come the doers of the Word, those that have “heard him” and will yet do whatsoever his will. It is a whomsoever will may come as after the fashion of Revelation to which the feast of the Lamb has come. Yet all are invited, having come through great tribulation and washed their robes white in the blood of the Lamb. It seems then that this great salvation speaks of something just a little bit more. For is it not our Father’s will that none should perish but all be brought to repentance as seen at the last. Nor does this voice come yet alone. Hereby does the voice of the Lord appear bodily and the powers of the Godhead dwelling therewith. It should come as no surprise to any then of the signs, wonder, and miracles seen in the earth. So the gifts of the Spirit also back up his witnesses and ministers then as it were. What then if the two witnesses be the power and the blood. Is not this great salvation God’s to administer just as is what you are being saved from. Herein does this same will work in us both to want and to do all his good pleasure. At no time then has the Father forsaken us nor yet left us alone. It is not in his nature, my friends. As the voice crying in the wilderness then has said who speaks of ought but himself, hear him then and bear it be you yet able bringing forth fruits meet for repentance. Yet now is he not alone. His voice, having gone out towards the end of the world, has been taken up by others. Even the angels seen as at first, have taken up the cry to bring forth his salvation towards this very end. The world to come then, of which he rules, has come into being, form, and fashion as of the angels seen in the text. How great this God is who once set the world into motion. So formed he all things seen and unseen that our faith could bring forth. Yet see his angel ministers now as they usher in his glory, that of the other world by which we speak. Come now, let us minister to that of the Lord. Notice the willingness of them that once had rebelled to now do his good work. Such a witness must be powerful indeed, is it not, to also be true. So come now and let us bear witness to the glory of our Lord. Until the day dawns and the shadows flee away that the Son be formed in us indeed.
