The Gift Unlike the Trespass

Romans 5:12-15

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned— To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone's account where there is no law.

Death and sin entered the world through one man. Behind the original sin and transgression of man was the devil. The devil brought sin, death, and introduced salvation through Jesus. Adam disobeyed God's command, while Jesus Christ the second Adam obeyed to the point of death. Note that God did nothing but send Jesus in John 3:17. The devil's hatred of Jesus spurred on the very same means for the world's redemption. This was done by one man, for Adam and Christ were the vessels and the objects used for good and for evil in the Father's plan. How wonderful is it that God allows the same one who hated his people to the point of destruction to turn his wrath against the same Son whose death brought redemption. How wonderful that God causes those who hate him to do his will.

Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.

God did nothing but give his only begotten Son in John 3:16. One could almost argue that because God did nothing when Adam fell and his Son was sacrificed, he is in-fact responsible. But God gave man the ability to chose as in Deuteronomy 30:19. Is it God's fault that he gave you and the angels this will? Behind the things the Father allows whether good or bad, you will find that he causes them to work together for your good in Romans 8:28. He is the God who makes the worst atrocities and adversities into blessings. See God's handling of this situation. God caused the one who broke it to fix it.

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!

This passage states that "the gift is not like the trespass." God is able to bring more than eternal life to those who believe in him. Written throughout the chapter is proof of God's grace, mercy, and his blessings as recorded in Romans 2:4. Satan's gift in the guise of freedom brought death and destruction; on the other hand, Jesus's gift brought sonship, power, family, and the glory to come. No, I do not believe that even if God did nothing more than save us, it would still be enough. He has done more than simply save us. Working throughout this life, the Father is bringing good from the Devil's mess and your poor choices. Even though in this life you may face nothing but persecution in John 16:33, as his child you have eternal life in him.
