Tense Practice
Great, now that you're here, let's all have a seat.
I have several tenses I'd like you to meet.
First comes the present
Though it sounds quite absurd.
That's things like is or has or even to be.
Next comes the future
With its' meanings unheard.
You'll find stuff will be
Or will be had you will see.
Then is the past
Though its' best not to dwell
Therein
Lest it should last.
Then is the past perfect
Which should be
Not the least bit
Concerning
And the future perfect
Which will trip you
Up if you're not
Discerning.
Be
Being (seen)
Been
Has been
Will be
Will have been
Was
Is
Is to come
Is coming
Would have been
Have
Has
Had
Will have
Will be had
Would have had
Notice how this is different from would have had or should have had which indicate what someone wanted or would have received. Then again, these same basic helper words can be used with most verbs to support or to help them convey their meaning. Sometimes these helper words even decide what is the tense. See how it's different from the basic tenses of:
want
wants
wanted
will want
will be wanted
would have wanted
has been wanted
How does your language or culture do the tenses?
