The past tense sounds a little bit like this:

Sat

Had

It tells what happened in the past. Our sentence then probably sounded a little bit like this.

Cat sat hat bat.

The only problem is it's missing something more. Well, it's missing a whole lot of things to be more accurate. We will see what these are later. First, see if you can identify some past tenses in your language or even in this.
