Stones Into Rest

The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

Matthew 27:44-47

See, there might have been two thieves upon the cross crucified with Christ but not all of them were willing. Could it be in the silence and in the stillness God is working your spiritual father out. Remember, one thief blessed him and was granted an immediate pardon. But then that other thief cursed him until the darkness fell. Yes dear church, the price has been paid. Jesus already arranged all for your salvation and for mine. More than some of you might find he has already taken your spiritual fathers out to replace them with himself. To the faithful, the time between the error and completion appears mercifully short indeed. Yet to the rest, it appears to stretch even to eternity. Look now, is that really what God has said about the matter seen before us here. The witness of Elijah seen even from afar, lasted but a moment for it came in with the Lord. Found hid among the temptations of Jesus is this rather singular point of view. The first then was that of the temptation to turn the troubles into blessings as stones turned into bread. Such is just not natural my friends. The second then was of all the kingdoms of the world gathered in a moment of time. How could Christ trade all Heavens glory for power but for a moment when it was his all along. Weeping was not meant to last the night nor sorrow ever be for long even at the expense of keeping power until the moments gone. The third then is nothing more than this. See, when the temple fell with it went the worship of the future. Now if Jesus is God surely he could step on out of the past or the present and into the future when time itself shall be no more. Yet whether present or not so does he know the time and us intimately. Having remembered our frame being that of but dust so are we could of him as well. Surely God could have stepped out of time to end things for himself. It was just a small step off the temple from one space to the next. But he is God and hasn't any need of such. For this reason then is it best not to tempt the Lord nor yet to put him to the test. How often do some of us go looking for what God already did. He is the building, the house, the whole corner and by him it all fits together my friends. How some of us should rather trust him just that much more my friends.
