Something to be Done

29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Matthew 5:29-30

Remember before we had looked at the reconciliation ministry, right. We left off with the man in love with a woman last time whom he didn't even know. Maybe he did and maybe he didn't. Either way, it's all kind of beside the point now, isn't it. Let's say your right eye is offended at the sight of her. Well, you can't very well get rid of your sight then, can you. Perhaps you really should consider it though lest you first got rid of her. Then you'd be in danger of breaking the murder statutes, right? Should you really wish to keep from sin, you would get rid of your right eye first. Great, now that you've done that, you've lost your right sight. Sure, it might be profitable for the rest of the body that your right eye is gone and you no longer have any vision, or feelings, or attraction, or urges. Perhaps though, your whole body shouldn't have been united in making such a conscious decision. You know how much effort it takes to get rid of one eye? It'd take everything you had and then some just to escape getting cast into hell and even that might not be all that profitable to you. Next, we'll come back to the hand which has plucked out your eye since that is the source of all the trouble here, isn't it?

Now, let's look at it like this. This is a judgement if you will to be done by the executing body to which these two have come. There's the issue of the right eye, the man, who comes in along with the right hand, which is the woman. See how the right eye and the hand go together, almost hand in hand as it were. You see a woman to lust after her and what do you do but arise to go do something about it. It has come to the council's attention, and it is now time to do something about you. The right hand has done something with the right eye which did cause it to offend and so too the other way around. What about casting the right eye out of the assembled body and likewise the hand since these are soon causing contentions among the whole rest of the body. Now there's lameness and disability within the assembled body, you see. There's got to be another kind of solution.
