Something For Show
And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the LORD will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:
10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
Book of the law 30:9-11
At this point it may sound mighty strange to consider. Pay close attention though to the book of the law that is mentioned as it will be something of struggle to find out exactly to what we are referencing. Have you made a listing of all the things it talks about yet? If you have not, here is what is should look like so far.
-plenty, that is room enough to spare, pressed down shaken together and running over all of for good measure
-blessings over the body, the cattle, the land,
-rejoicing over you for good as he had done over their fathers also
-hearkening only is mentioned as is a good following also required there so far
Coincidentally this is also the Book of the law that is mentioned. How about that, it just describes ever so perfectly the book we are in. Oh and before you forget, here is the last piece of the curse that was mentioned.
And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
20 The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
21 And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law:
Book of the law 29:19-21
Yep, you got it right from the start. Now though there is something the matter almost of habit which formed. Call it pickiness if you like or also not knowing which from the way it was formed. Imagine if you like having all of these books here to read and of all them not a one is knowing their names. The text always though gives some clues if you like it, at least if you would pause to consider about whereabouts we are at on the map. Can you make your notes if you like on the law?
And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished,
25 That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,
26 Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.
27 For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?
Book of the law 31:24-27
Now we have got another whole matter recorded.
Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do
according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not
from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever
thou goest.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt
meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all
that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then
thou shalt have good success.
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid,
neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou
goest.
Joshuas Ministry 1:7-9
Joshuas Ministry it seems is in a good bit of trouble only for the fact that God called Joshua Moses minister recorded there earlier.
Then Joshua built an altar unto the LORD God of Israel in mount Ebal,
31 As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is
written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no
man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto
the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.
32 And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he
wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.
Joshuas Ministry 8:30-32
Yep, that is a fact check alright. You might be wondering what on earth is the law of Moses of which he is talking. You are probably right to get confused at this juncture, cause that is thusly exactly what has been happening. We all know that in order to get the law Moses had to have a meeting there on the mountain with God. The only other issue though is what to do with the two laws that are mentioned. This is the one he went up for on the mountain and quite possibly also the one that we have not as we ought understanding.
And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this
side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark
of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger, as he that was born among
them; half of them over against mount Gerizim, and half of them over against
mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they
should bless the people of Israel.
34 And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings,
according to all that is written in the book of the law.
35 There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not
before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and
the strangers that were conversant among them.
Joshuas Ministry 8:33-35
Yep, just a little more confused from the jump. This is the law that is mentioned in the which the blessings and curses really ought to have been recorded.
And the LORD your God, he shall expel them from before you, and drive them
from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God
hath promised unto you.
6 Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the
book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or
to the left;
7 That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither
make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither
serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:
Joshuas Ministry 23:5-7
Now you have got the issue of what to do with the law that deals with the people. I mean, it could be anything right, that is unless you start to pull together thusly of what we made mention of there all along. You know, there is the book in the which the curses recorded. Then you have got the ones also for the which is made mention of some peoples various illness and skin conditions known for your prayers. Hmmm, could it be the same sort of thing? Just you wait and you see.
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute
and an ordinance in Shechem.
26 And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great
stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
27 And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness
unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it
shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.
Joshuas Ministry 24:25-27
Oh boy, just when you thought it was coming out all nicely and neatly a coming together, it has fallen apart whatever the weather. I mean, the matter. What on earth now are we doing with just a simply the law of the Lord?
Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice
and burnt incense on the high places.
5 And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that
he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.
6 But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is
written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying,
The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to
death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
7 He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and
called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
Oh boy, this is not any better. There is a book of the law which talks about the sins of the children being put to death for the parents to Moses ascribed.
Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was
delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.
8 And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the
book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to
Shaphan, and he read it.
9 And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again,
and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house,
and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the
oversight of the house of the LORD.
And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath
delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
11 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the
law, that he rent his clothes.
12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan,
and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant
of the king's, saying,
And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah,
and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and
Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.
9 And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them,
and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
10 And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were
round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
Oh no, there we have got the book of the law of the Lord mentioned there just so. Apparently it is mentioned that you have in this thing thusly recorded with a good deal of priests and Levites there also that have got fear falling upon the rest of the lands that surrounds.
Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that
wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were
scribes, and officers, and porters.
14 And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of
the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.
15 And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book
of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
How many other books is this Hilkiah and Shaphan going to pull out of the house in the end? I think that was enough there so far is for everything to be working together just as it should.
16 And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back
again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.
17 And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of
the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and to the hand
of the workmen.
18 Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given
me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
19 And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he
rent his clothes.
20 And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and
Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the
king's, saying,
21 Go, enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in
Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of
the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the
word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.
I mean it gets worse and worse right from the first.
And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street
that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the
book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.
2 And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and
women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the
seventh month.
3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the
morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could
understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the
law.
4 And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the
purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah,
and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and
Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and
Meshullam.
5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all
the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
6 And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen,
Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped
the LORD with their faces to the ground.
7 Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah,
Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the
people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.
8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and
caused them to understand the reading.
Nehemiahs Prophecy 8:1-8
Now can you understand it when it is put there like that?
And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity
made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of
Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very
great gladness.
18 Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of
the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a
solemn assembly, according unto the manner.
And then there is something right that makes you feel a bit more than unsettled there from the first. He is mentioned as the son of Nun there at least which really should make you more than a little suspicious about what he was doing in his place there at least.
And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and
confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
3 And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of
the LORD their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they
confessed, and worshipped the LORD their God.
4 Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel,
Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and cried with a loud voice
unto the LORD their God.
5 Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah,
Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever
and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing
and praise.
Nehemiahs Prophecy 9:2-5
Where do you think that this one should really then go? I mean, we could always get all nice and sweet and technical and have a good bit discussion about the difference there mostly in what it makes between a sacrifice and an offering. I mean if really you wanted though I find it would be much more of a you problem than I wanted there at first at least there starting out.
So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is
written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written
in the book of the law to do them.
11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for,
The just shall live by faith.
12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for
us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Unto the Churches 3:9-13
Well, that is good news for us and bad news at least for the rest of the crew. The book of the law is not meant to be some long drawn out terrified process at least not as far as the sacrifices and offerings there had of been meant. Though when it comes to all the Levite processions, well that is what had happened there back in the Jordan. In Joshuas Ministry at least for your process which would have meant that God had to have at least laid a claim on the book. Now whether it works or not is worth another sort of having a look.
