Signs of All Things
And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
Once was “the veil of the temple rent in twain from the top to the bottom” of Matthew 27:51. Now see the room hidden behind that veil as one of glory. Here we find Jesus, our great high priest, always understanding, making intercessions for us in all our times of trouble. So Hebrews 4:15 testifies. Notice how this room is very much like God being so filled with the presence of himself. Indeed, whether Father, Son, or Spirit these three agree as one. Jesus in John 10:28-30 testifies himself of such. For the Father has given him who is above all, and entrusted him with all the rights and responsibilities of such. Then too is he created equal, as one and the same. It is an image much as the temple under the Old Covenant with all its' parts could in no means be separated one from the other. For your refreshing, there was the outer court, the inner court, and the Holiest place of all. How many of you know this as God's place. Far too often when speaking of the things of old, some of us get caught up in the details like counting for needles. Then at the last we find that a whole camel could have trotted past in our concentration. So then with Matthew 23:24 aside, we see God in his rightful position. There are reasons that the innermost court, the Holiest place relates to him. Of those let us look at briefly, if you will. Around the mercy seat were the cherubims of glory seen in the text. Then too was the nature of such a high priest found at last. In such a place as this then were these allowed only. Notice how Christ Jesus when he was arisen is seated at the right hand of the Father in Heaven. It forms a mercy seat of you will accompanying his priestly position. Then too there is seen a reason for the little speech surrounding the now empty position. What has become then of this God we serve that is seated in the highest. Notice the presence of the Spirit, who speaks with all intercession on behalf of the saints. Nor is it exactly noticed, seen, and visible as in Romans 8:26; but rather at times it takes the form of wordless groans from the One who knows ought before we yet ask. See then this as 1 Corinthians 3:11, the foundation which no one else can lay save on that of Jesus Christ. See then of what manner the building in Matthew 21:42. For upon closer inspection we see Christ Jesus, our chief cornerstone. On him then all else is laid. He who knows our position, our strength, our works, and earnest devotion. So also knows he too our frame almost as our weakness. As over him some have often stumbled. To fall upon him then whether for mercy or in prayer, believe me, he sees and cares. So too will we find the answers there. There are some works then of wood, hay, and stubble, gold, and precious stones that believe it or not sound about like you. God our great high priest is merciful. See too it then that you fall on him; then too take care lest by him you yourself be broken.
