Screech Owl of the Air
Screech owls are funny creatures being mostly noctural themselves. That means they come out at night while the rest of humanity is all nice and warm, safely tucked into bed. The darkness really suits the screech owl, for it is often the best time for one to hunt for its' prey. This is because owls of all things have quite excellent night vision that lets them see in the dark. Their most common prey are things like small mice, moles, voles, rats, and things that move along the ground. Other much larger prey includes skunks, possums, and other creatures of similar size. However, these are usually best kept for their larger cousin, the great owl and occasionally the desert owl. Due to the desolate nature of their dwellings, these get to eat whatever moving things they can find. Of course, though it has to be moving because nothing else quite catches the owl's attention like this. So, these keep watch, often all night, restless, ever moving, and relentlessly looking out over the sky.
The problem is that owls have excellent night vision. They can see very well at night, as mentioned before, even in the dark. They were just made that way. Nor are these creatures usually solitary. As mentioned before, they have wings on which they float across the night sky. Upon these wings are many feathers that function for flight and also for keeping them warm. The problem with the dear owl though, is their cry. Most owls sound out with a plaintive whooooo whooooo like the dove and some are a little bit louder. But the screech owl's name comes from its' shrill wwwwwhhhhhhhoooooooo. Of course, these don't care for either form or function which makes them rather easy to spot if you know whatever it is you're listening for. Then again, owls like to gather and some even to mate. The next part of the text tells what the screech owl loves: a home, a mate, some prey, and some friends.
The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.
