Rhyme
Some of you might wonder what all these have in common. It is simply this. The last word in two of every four sets of lines rhymes. The rhyme are any two words which sound similar. A good example would be:
hare there
The rhyme and the structure together form the most basic type of English poetry known as sonnet. It has been called this way because many have practiced it over the years. Again though, just because a lot of famous people do it, doesn't make it right. I am sure your culture does something way more appealing which I will discuss shortly. While I am thinking about it, let us see poetry's form. Here is a line of poetry given for you to enjoy.
How I wish upon a star
Then there is a verse made up of a series of lines strung together.
How I wish upon a star
And wake up somewhere
Beyond the sky so far
At happily ever after
No one said the verse ever had to end. Technically, these lines can be extended indefinitely to create one long verse of poetry. Nor do the words have to rhyme in the same exact place. They can rhyme differently if you like. Let's see that next.
A Prayer
Dear God, give me grace
For every trial in every place.
Hide me in the hollow of your hand
In this dry and thirsty land.
Direct my steps that I should go
In thy perfect way to know.
Help me find every day
Some soul along the way
To share a kind word or deed
With someone else in need.
So help me, Lord, I pray
Live for you each day.
Trust Me
The politician said "Trust me
And you will see.
I'll give you so many things
So you all can live like kings."
Next morning to my shame
I found he had an awful name
For lying to keep himself afloat.
But he'd sold me for a vote.
A friend said "Just trust me
And you will see
That I a true and faithful
Friend will be."
I got up next morning
And found them flown.
A broken vow and promise true
Left hurt, betrayal too.
My spouse said "Trust me
And you will see
I will love, cherish, and adore
You always, forevermore."
Two days passed and I thought he'd stay
With me – together always.
But soon I felt like sliced meat.
He was nothing but a cheat.
Jesus came and saw my need.
He came along and took the lead
To greener pastures beside
Where the still water flows.
Then he said "Trust me
And you will see.
I'll stay with you
Through all life and eternity too."
The next morning, he was there
Keeping me safe from every snare.
Jesus, my true friend, the crucified
Led me safe to the other side.
Dust Bunny Friends
"Dust bunnies, dust bunnies you're everywhere.
I see you guys hiding under my feet.
Dust bunnies, dust bunnies, I found your lair!
You're keeping my home from looking neat.
Dust bunnies, dears, you must get out of here.
I love you dearly; but you all must see
That I need rest and can't have y'all so near –
And no, your presence doesn't offend me.
Dust bunnies, dust bunnies please go outside
Where a surprise awaits – no, I won't lie.
There is a home there for you to abide
In peace and safety – oh thank you. Goodbye.
Then I sat down happily with a grin
Only to yell, "Why are they back again?"
Lord's Delight
Like a dog knows his owner's call
And an ox, his master's stall,
So the Lord delights in all those
That trust not in man; And he knows
Them that hope in his mercies
And trust in the unfailing love
Of the God who reigns above.
Lo
Behold I come quickly
And my reward is with me
To give every man
Each to his own work
According to what it is.
Behold I am Alpha and Omega;
The first and last his name,
The ancient of days,
The giver of life,
Jehovah is my name.
Comfort one another
Even as I have comforted you.
Hold fast to my words,
Keep standing true –
Behold, I am coming soon.
