Realm of the Hereafter

Luke 20:41-44, Revelation 21:3-4

And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son? And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?

Notice the mystery contained in our lack of understanding seen in the text. Is it not funny that so often our Lord says he has been made unto his wisdom. Yet that is the last thing some of us seek. So then is seen the all things the Gentiles seek come after as those who know not of the Lord. God himself shall be their God. The tabernacle of God is with men, shall not anymore be ashamed to call him their God. Nor will he be ashamed to be called their God as send in the text. Herein is God well-known to his people. There is shame seen in the text as fear, the tears, and with them the years have all run together into the Lord. There are hopes and dreams and unmet expectations. It is all there to be seen. Yet the point I am making is simply this. There is no shame to be found with the Lord. You are either his people or you are not, there is no middle ground. You cannot have a sometimes Sunday, a maybe you would rather just not. He is either the rock on which you stand or all else is sinking sand. You cannot have it both ways in the house of the Lord. It cannot be both the house that Jack built and the one who is greater still yet to come.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Beloved, such things cannot be. It is like a spring that contains sweet water and bitter all at the same time. Really, my friends, what are you expecting to get from out of the people. See, are we not the body, his church, well preserved without spot, blemish, or wrinkle until the day of his Son. Even David himself testifies to the truth of all this as he sits waiting for the Lord himself to appear. It is a sit-you-here situation if you will until the battles be over and the victory won. How often would our God have gathered his people as a mother hen gather's her chicks under her wings but these would not. Now is the house left desolate as see in the text. But what really would happen should we simply trust our all to the Lord. So, there are some enemies that have come in with his Son. There might be a situation in the house, some disorder seen for just a little while yet my friends. How many know that when God is through it will not be any such way ever for long.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

For so David once found that in his all his distress, wherever he would go, the Lord was not finished working with him just yet. Only our God then who brings all things from out of the pain and sorrows in life could stand over this situation and so call it good. Only our God could bring about the shift and with it his book my friends. For therein is revealed the heart of God to his people. Remember how Genesis 50:20 told of it before in the text of all things meant for evil now turned into good. Look with me now at it if you will at the all things of God found in the text. It seems he wears his enemies ever so well, be they now but as those turned into good, even those which make up his throne. It is this God then that promises good to his people. For will be not also perform it be it ever so well, my friends.

Back to what was seen at the first though found in the text. The message remains as ever one of surety. Might well you remember that those ashamed of our Father and his words will also be put to shame in his presence before the holy angels with him. So then is this not a true and faithful saying to those that suffer with the Lord. For therein is found the comfort of God to his people just as sure and as certain as the suffering comes before reign. Come on now, who are we to do the Lord any such way. So often though some of us do, hiding his name as the el Shaddai, the holy of holies, our maker, creator, sustainer, the giver of life under bushels and baskets. I can hear some of you now saying, 'how; I would never do the Lord any such way.' So too did Peter before he denied him. Yet so often does the Lord say his name as the Word made flesh dwelling among us as his glory we do behold. But some of us shut up his book to ourselves and say, 'nay Lord, how can it be.'

And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

How often does he say as seen in the text that he will be found of them when they search for him with their whole heart. It is not that our God is in hiding nor yet in disguise, no. Rather therein is seen the care of God for his church. Whether the church or his people it is still his same body and blood, is it not my friends. Now we are going back to the matter of David as seen at first in the text. How often man likes to put a period where God has simply turned the page. Whatever then God that is keeping broken, bound, stuck, or been holding you back God has come to set free. For whom the Son sets free, you shall be free indeed, no ifs and or buts about it. No matter how long our God has appointed a time of deliverance still for his people. How many know that when he calls you, you're heading on out. Herein is found the mystery of God in the people much like David's life as at first. So, his promise to us still yet remains, to come ye all that are weary and heavy laden to receive the rest of the Lord. For our God will not then be ashamed to be called of David his son. Nor is he ashamed of all that believe on him even to all those that call on his name. See it borne out in the blind man begging by the roadside for Jesus.

And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

It came to pass that Jesus was recognized by one that needed the peace and healing he brings as David's son. Understanding this then is key to the text. Oh, how he needed God's son to be brought back into a right relationship with the things of above. Limited sight then is more than just about dim vision or rather an inability to see. Rather Paul talks about the things of this world that have blinded the eyes of them beyond being able to see and believe. Notice like those with dim vision that this man sat by the roadside begging for bread and so too to be led. Still there is an inherent weakness in the blind man's condition that caused him to run to the rock that is higher than him. It speaks of one greater, even Jesus Christ the righteous. See, his present condition be it but fleeting was merely a tool in the hands of our God. For this cause then does our God have no trouble finding it his place to remove. So does our God delight in doing good to his people. Such is his right for so it has been all along. The situation then was on its way out and with it the Lord. Note the change in the shift, one that speaks to Heaven's point of view.

Yet the Master understands all this too well having once been there himself. He remembers our frame knowing we are but dust as David once said. The issue remains then not with the situation but rather the Lord. But the again does not the text call him as one David's son. This too it seems the Lord would not let them forget. He came as one greater without a form or shadow of his own righteous self. Then too the only thing he had come to give us his all. It seems that in all of man's striving to be perfect and so to do well, one simple thing has been forgotten that spoke of the Lord. How we are this blind man which now can see, the beggar beyond which has need of no more, or David who has need of nothing save only himself. Christ the righteous that is, our God and our Lord. Before this then the lesser to the greater must bow. But then is our God not ashamed to be called his God. For the same God who calls and Fathers his people is the one who still watches and keeps them ever so well.
