Partakers of the Lord

Hebrews 3:1-4
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

Herein is found the faithfulness of the servant in all the matters of the house. Remember how that you have heard before the Master is not any less than those beneath nor the servant greater than the Lord. Then too, consider this cause unto which the devil once strove. Was it not for the body of Moses itself to which he ministered. So then there remains the all-sufficiency of our Heavenly Lord. See, how this One has blazed the trail so to speak and gone on up ahead. It is to such a cause as this have we been sent. There remains then a sure and certain danger seen here as at first found in where the sanctified and the sanctifieth so often meet up. Is it any wonder with what all as such as this that we are even sanctified being found in him at all. So often the church loves to talk about being saved, sanctified, and well on the way to glory without having any earthly idea what all it even means. If they did, I highly doubt they would be so eager to say it in a loud and haughty fashion, in a manner such as this. How many y of you know that the Lord came to seek and save the lost, them that knew it, even that the least. So too were some of us once in need of help ourself. Nor could any be found to yet atone for sin or therewith it bear away. See, Revelation 5 has much to say about who it is that keeps the scroll. It is very much similar to the book of life to whom the keeper is plainly revealed for all to see. Is it not the Lamb that had been slain. So too, do the sanctifieth meet up with the sanctified herewith. Well might the Lord not even trouble to call us holy not at all. But is it not his body and blood that sanctifieth with, you see. So then the real wonder here is found in the holy brethren and heavenly calling seen at first. Is it any wonder then that God should call us all himself. Know This now the price he paid as in Isaiah 53. It was nothing less than a full reversal of the cup. The first greatest wonder lies in our calling of himself. The second greatest one is found in our even being there at all. Here, the example is given of Moses, found faithful in his house. Notice how the text does not say he was found faithful all his days. Indeed, only The Lord could establish such, found it, or even begin thereon to build. He is the stone the builders rejected is he not, being now made the head of the corner and marvelous in our eyes. So … agrees. See, the text makes it clear what to his house he should appear. Herein is he not the Apostle, High Priest, and the whole house put together. By such a one does the good news come then, himself being the messenger to all that would listen. Then too he appears as One having already offered himself to help in time of need. For such a time as this then does the high priest minister, himself being recipient of the very same grace. It is to this house then that our Master has come. Is he not the best Savior and Friend that ever there was himself being Lord of the same. Now At the last we’ find the issue of his appointment as though divinely designed. In him does the source of our calling come as Creator of all and the One with the power to hold it all in his hands. Herein is seen the matter of the faithfulness of the appointment at last. How many of you know how hard it is remain faithful when the source of your calling is God. Imagine doing so when all hell is stacked against your back. But so the Lord did being faithful always for all of his days. It should be seen that the source of his calling was always God himself. There was never a time when our Lord had gone rogue, failed to complete his assignment, or even left us alone. So then are the appointee and the appointer One having the same aims in the task. Back then to the example of Moses. It is a special case indeed concerning the man who once intended to deliver God’s people, lost his temper, improperly killed just one man, and so had fled. This same Moses we see though was of a different sort, one that was found faithful for the rest of his days. Nor did this faithfulness affect just himself as some are wont to think. Such things spill over into the family, the body, the church, and to the rest of the house.

3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

For this cause then was he sent, this perfect Lamb of God. He had more “glory than Moses” due to his place in the house rather than the calling for which his faithfulness stood. See, that is why you must make double sure that your founder and maker is God so that you too might be rooted and grounded, built up, and established for all of your days. He is that rock then on which all else stands not those shifting sands of time and the weather. Lest of course you should think that faithfulness all of your days was the standard to be attained, consider what of Moses and also the Lord. In him then will we find our calling and our building up as well. It is in him then our hope is found much like the building of the former while imperfect served until that which is perfect be come. See, it now as a building up of all things to his Son. He will not tolerate any to be missing or broken, gone from his house though it be ever so long. You know how some of you do when you are down and out, feeling small. But then our God comes along and raises you up so tall. So then the focus is hardly on the faithfulness of the call, though such is important. Rather it is on the One who builds up all things of his Son. It matters not what any man says, what we pass through, but where we end up. Is not our God who is faithful found in all of his house and so keeps us all very well.
