Without calling any cultures out, let us look at the foundations of sound. What consists of many little things known as notes. Maybe some of you already know the song that addresses the issue of notes arranged in the form of a scale. But first, go ahead in a nice, normal tone of voice and say hello. Nice and steady now.

Hello.

No, don't holler like you're the town crier up there ringing a bell nor growl like a lion of the jungle safari. We're just going over the basics. Alright then, start out on the same tone as hello with:

Doe

That's it. Doe as in,

Doe, a deer, a female deer.

A step higher this time.

Ray, a drop of golden sun

And again,

Me, a name I call myself

Once more

Far, a long long way to run

And again

Sew, a needle sewing thread

One more time

La, a note to follow sew

One step higher

Tea, a drink with jam and bread

For fun, go one more step up.

That will bring us back to doe.

Good job! I will explain more about what you have done in just a bit. Did you notice that the starting note doe as in hello finished up with doe on the same note exactly one pitch higher. I used to know something of the piano myself, so I will explain more about the why of it very shortly.
