More To Be
But one in a certain place testified, saying, what is man, that thou art mindful of him? Or the son of man that thou visitest him? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him.
You know, in times like these, often am I reminded of the old gospel hymn that says 'is it true that you are mindful of me, that you hear me when I call.' It rather is amazing is it not, to think of the care our God has for his people. Some of us get down in the dumps after awhile of trudging through this old weary world. But how many of you know that God did not ordain you to stay broken and stuck, right where you are. He has not called you to the same old place no more, the same old job no more, the same situation no more, the same attitude no more. When God calls you, you're heading on out. So then to this the question remains "what is man" that our God should mind him indeed. As David himself once testified, man is borne unto trouble even as the sparks fly upwards. Yet in all this, how precious is the God who knows his saints and so keeps them right well. It takes a special God to remember us indeed being so called after his form and his likeness that when he appears we might look like him as well. See, it is not that our God has forgotten to care for his people. Oh no, rather, he knows our frame being made like unto us as well. So, when he says we are but dust, be careful whom you are calling after the image of the Father this time. Yet the same God who sent his Son to die for his people hardly still will leave them alone. He who hung the planets into space, set the moon and stars in motion, knows, and calls them all by name, remembers his people. Here we find our God in the remembering business. Is it not just who he is if ever so holy, is he not, my friends? Now that does not mean that he has forgotten after the manner of some having left off of those things to come. But rather, it is his Son we are speaking of here. Look now with me at the Son of Man remembered of the Father and so was visited by him as well. Yet such is not a visit to the house of those having nothing as some are wont to think. See it now, him being made after the form and fashion of a man who really should have been made from him instead. Just think of it now of that of his place. Was it not even as man's set below the ushers of the world and the ages thereof still yet to come. For this cause though did such minister to him, this God by whom the worlds were formed. I can almost hear some of you now 'did he not form these also and gave them all their names.' What is this then, having set such over riches and goodness of his grace causing them to minister himself instead. Might well have David once called the Lord his shepherd, and all else who follow after. It might be a little hard to see at first till you understand the focus of all the little under-shepherds following himself, their leader, the main, the only One. So too is there a crown yet to be seen. It's not in the past, no, is it nor yet even to be had in the future. The crown you see speaks of his ruling and dominion as it really is, right here and right now, in this old world below. Now to the Lord the cross indeed must have been an awful shame. Just to think of this man whom all our sins and sorrows bore. Yet is there glory and honor to be seen with him indeed. It seems rather strange, does it not, exchanging all of Heaven's glory for such a crown as this. But comes the glory and honor yet to be seen. Is it not comforting indeed to know that in all this God is working all things out for good. So then too are we not as his precious jewels with which he makes up his crown. Come now, tell me ought of the Lord which causes even his crown albeit of thorns in his sight to be considered precious indeed. Then again is there not elevation within the subjugation there to be seen. It might look like a put down for now. But when our God is through, there remains the knowledge of his turning even this yet into good. Might well some of you remember the text, "Being found in fashion as a man he humbled himself to death even the death of the cross." It might not look much like it of yet. But just you wait, Sunday's coming. Herein is found the mystery of the life still yet to come. Someone shout, 'I'm in the grave now, but I'm ruling tomorrow.' So then is seen what of God's Son which has laid down the crown. See how with it his dominion and authority have since been resumed. For did he not just finish setting up the angels as seen in another place and his house with it as well. Tell me then what of this man, made like unto us, that holds the whole world in his hands. Perhaps some of you might remember the song that tells what all is there in his hands. Yet here we find the all things to come still of the Son. Is it not funny indeed to see the Lord working and ruling it out in the affairs of men. If you think there's a situation now, just wait till you have seen what is still yet to come. It may be the end of the matter or yet the end of his Son. For sure though, what will be has God already determined so that the ages to come may ring with his praise. Could it be then some of us have not seen it just yet.
