Judas
Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you?
And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
Matthew 26:14-16
Judas, the one that betrayed the Lord for money is looking rather worse for the wear. History and quite possibly also the text have indicated that he hung himself feeling so guilty over the Lord's condition. It seems betraying innocent blood wasn't simply enough. It was that and the fact that he really wasn't guilty of anything charged with. Judas though, had sold him to the religious figures for plenty of money. When that was no longer enough, he returned throwing it all down in the floor at their feet charging them of having to do with his death. The blood money though found a way to return, buying the field in which he was found and ensuring a resting place there for the poor. It's a story that runs alongside Joseph's so many years before. Joseph is found by his brothers thrown in a deep dark pit. There he is told he cannot escape. Reuben, one of the eldest, argues with the others there at the top. He begs for the innocent younger brother's life.
Once that is spared, he leaves with the others as they go to bear a bloodied robe on back to their dad. Sure, he meant to come back later and rescue that life. When he has returned though, he finds it gone. It's been sold to some traders who then went off down to Egypt. Perhaps the original Reuben knew not of the sale. He showed kindness and mercy in wanting to spare him a life. Yet his ancestor, Judas, most certainly did. Judas' behavior is as like yet unlike Reuben as you can get in the house. You could say he's used his power for evil and not unto good. In addition, there's the matter of him having forsaken his own house for good. It should've been Issachar, should it not, with him receiving and keeping the money and stuff. That made him one that quite literally was worthy of hire, being the one who cared for the rest. Then again, that's just what leaving your own house and using the powers for evil will do.
