Jackal of the Desert
Off in the distance, a wild dog stalks its' prey. Well, it really doesn't, but you know what I mean. This is the friendly neighborhood creature known as a jackal, wild dog, or a hyena. Hyenas might be a little more of a safari creature than the jackal which mainly inhabits the dry wastelands of the desert. Occasionally it prefers the quiet of an oasis for rest and refuel. On the whole though, the jackal cuts a solitary figure as it roams through the land in search of food. It largely enjoys the company of others of its' kind, though the relations may be suspicious of each other or less than friendly at first. This too is as the Word says, "after its kind."
The jackal prefers of all things a feast of fresh meat. The fresher the carcass, the better, as the jackal has only to compete with the buzzards to eat. Should the jackal ever be late to a meal, it might find the remains already picked clean leaving nothing but the bare bones. This too doesn't deter even a jackal, as a day without food could mean harm to them and their pups. Due to the jackals shy and retiring nature, these will not directly approach with other animals there. This means that the pack will very seldom bring down its' prey as is the nature of most other creatures. Should the jackal best be described by a hobby, it would be that of a neighborhood waste remover.
Think about it. There's a carcass sitting out in the sun done in by wild beasts or natural causes. The jackal will come in and remove the scene from the neighborhood as part of its' regular watch. Once the wild dog mates, it will soon have a litter. The litter is what grows inside the female jackal as its' stomach swells. After a short gestation period of several months, the mother will enter into childbirth as the litters emerge. Baby jackals are called pups which grow after the fashion of most other beasts, except for maybe the birds. When the pups are able to see and walk and waddle fast to keep up, they will tag along behind their mother in search of their next meal.
And of Jezebel also spake the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.
24 Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.
