In the Beginning
And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Hebrews 1:6-8
Look with me now at what of the kingdom for just a moment if you will. Hush now, all of Heaven sits watching, waiting to see what shall thereof come forth. Therein is found a perspective shift if you will. Rather, it is seen in stark contrast to the chatter and commotion of the text which has gone on just before. Already has our God sat down at the right hand of the Father after having purged our sins by the blood his spotless Lamb. So too let us enter into this place most holy. The question has already been given regarding the superiority of Christ to the angels. For it seems their place is now very much in question. For as he sists among such exalted beings high and lifted up, let us not mistake his place, no not for a second. See how like Revelation 5 it is, as we see the question asked of who was worthy to open the matter of the sealed scroll and read what had been written therein. Only one could be found, that of Christ our eternal God and Father himself. See him now as he brings the forth the firstbegotten into the world as written in the text. So does John 1:14 agree speaking of the glory from "the only begotten of the Father" the Word by whom all things agree. Might he well deserve our praise, whether of angels or not, for all he has done. As if salvation itself were not enough see the worship due in the text. For so we do praise him, this one who makes all time itself right with his praise. Some of us have all sorts of different reasons for why we do praise the Lord. Yet here God wishes to be so for his position and person and none other. See, regardless of whether he had ever done anything for us or not, he still deserves our praise and worship because of his place. His place as the firstbegotten into the world is worth all the praises of eternity. He is God all by himself, my friends, for he needs none other. He needs no other introduction; his presence brooks no other argument. So too does his presence set forth his position, a place like none other as Isaiah says, high and lifted up so that the clouds and smoke and train of his glory filled his holy throne. For this cause then do his angels serve him, these spirits and flames of fire of God. See them now as those filled by his power. He is holy my friends. Just one sight of him alone will tell you that, with his garments washed white in the blood of the Lamb. He is God all by himself. So it seems there is none other to stay his hand or to say wherefore are you doing this. For where he walks none can let and there are none therefore to hinder. Let them come now these angels and ministers who serve him hereby. By his power then he does all things well. Nor is it merely to darkness and disorder that these are called to serve and burn of their own accord. But there is rather a throne to be seen behind it all, this service to whom these are called. So too does this throne of his reign forever and ever throughout all time is it seen. It is an everlasting foundation if you will, far different from the ones on which you and I so often fall. Notice then the nature of his filling these spirits and fires with that of the eternal, even our God himself. So his throne then is built on truth and righteous with the holiness and judgment thereof. It seems then that to a holy purpose were these created even that of service to his throne. See them now these ones by which our God lights up the darkness of this world and so brings forth his kingdom. The only right response it calls forth then is for worship. My, it is worth praying indeed for his will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. So do the nations and kingdoms of this world worship for have they not been his all along. It seems we should too as servants and the people of our God.
