In Charge of Great Treasure

And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.
Acts 8:31-35
The text tells of a certain eunuch who quite likely did not know much of the things of this world. However, he apparently had been found faithful in all his house. So was he given charge over all the treasures of his land. Now perhaps his land is not exactly the Ethiopia as we know it today. Yet nonetheless, he was from a certain place by that name. Notice if you will how this man also conducts himself, always searching, ever anxious of knowing more. Here was a man that not only kept treasure but also added thereunto. Another place such as Luke 6:45 tells that from the abundance of treasures in the heart, the mouth speaks. For those of you that have children, perhaps you know this to be the case. Still though, this man had heard of the Lord and was well on his way to Jerusalem in the worship of him. It should be seen that this man was faithful and obedient to the light in the fashion he had received. But he knew not the Lord for sure due to his spiritual state of also being a eunuch lest some should show him otherwise. In this then was he taken. This man here it seems had a good heart. For so was his treasure or what he spent time dwelling on also good. The text here tells how he had with him a scroll of the Lord. Now I do not know about you, but I just love those people that come prepared with more than what is needed. They will pack not only the cat and the dog but the whole house too and carry it with them just in case. How many of you know that when you bring the Lord with you though, you will always be prepared. He has your back like that and your pack too. So there is some spiritual foresight to be seen in the preparation. This preparation of treasures then soon turned into preservation, even to the saving of his own soul. For the soul is worth more than anything else in this life, my dear friends. How well we both know what profit it is if a man should gain the whole world yet lose his own soul. If a man were to give all the treasure of his house for love then would it still not be enough. Yet how well do you know God's love, who would give whatever it took to save life. So then he sent Philip, caught up in the Spirit to witness this thing. Though he sent a witness, the focus was not on the eunuch nor even the treasures. Rather preached he Jesus along with the salvation he brings. For when Jesus is preached, you can trust God to straighten all else out. The eunuch it seemed kept his heavenly focus. Whether a eunuch or not, treasure keeper or not, or some other man was present or not, God could always be trusted with all of the test. So also deserved he nothing less than this man's personal best. Look how well at the end it all has resolved. Seeing Christ in all his glory takes care of the rest.
