Household Spider

Most spiders, by definition, fall into the category of the creepy-crawlies. That is, those things we don't really like to talk about or even look at. These feature a distinct eight legs, with four on each side of the body. These legs are usually much longer than the body for a number of reasons. First off, if the spider didn't have them, they would slither like a snake along the ground or slide sideways as does a viper. Because the body is so heavy in relation to their little legs, movement would be nigh impossible were it not for their delicate little suspension systems. Perhaps you have seen this style on bridges before, giving them the name suspension bridges. The name describes a series of cables and ropes that attach to a central main span which holds up the rest of the bridge. Because of this, the spider moves slowly, albeit quickly, to you, due to your horror. As such, these are relatively easy to catch and contain or even to crush. That is all possible once you get used to them.

Therefore, the legs are as thin or as fat as needed in relation to the spider's central size. Some of the legs are even longer than the usual due to their multipurpose use in other capabilities. It seems these support a larger but not necessarily heavier spider size. The other issue with the spider is their unique abilities to catch and hold onto their prey. You could say these are best known for the complex webs they spin, often in the most unlikely places, in the hopes of luring some in. Although the spider is an ambitious beast relative to their small size, you can find their misplaced skills in the middle of a perfectly good walking trail in the hopes of catching you up in it. Aside from that, their usual prey consists of nuisance insects like flies, mosquitos, gnats, moths, butterflies, and occasionally other spiders.

These webs come from projections on the sides of a spider's face which constantly move, generating silk. These strands are then passed to the spider's forelegs and used to weave an intricate trail. Did you know that spiders are highly intelligent, being able to generate several different types of silk from their mouths. The different types then assist them in catching their prey or anchoring the web to keep its' form and shape. You might say that spiders are masters of suspension, being well trained in the art themself. But that is not the only spider quality. Some are known for having poison which can kill or maim man. Most of these bites are not known to be curable without having an antidote. The antidote is so-called as a solution to the venom. On the other hand, some spiders, though unrecognized, can save us all.

The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.
