God Bring The Harvest

Luke 10:2

After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

Surely the Lord must be joking in this text right here. He sends the disciples out two by two like so many raging animals out of the ark. They go wherever he would and have to find for themselves anybody who would listen to them. Here are the laborers that he has sent. See how they have gone forth as sheep in the midst of wolves seeking the harvest. Have you ever tried to find a harvest when you had no prey instincts at all. Everything might look to you like food. Still others see the ravening wolves everywhere in place of a nice tame flock of sheep. In your fear and your lack, God can still keep you. Some of you ought to take some time for prayer. What you know not, God can help you with. I have heard of some preachers speaking to near non-existent audiences while other places are packed. Could it be we possess a vision problem. Now the only difference between the Lord and the harvest is your ability to see them both clearly.

By faith and his works, you know the God of Hebrews 1:1 exists. Maybe you cannot yet see the harvest just yet. But trust me, it is there. As faithful as God himself, the Lord of both, so will he keep them. See, you and I might not always like his timing. Yet sooner or later, will this not this situation also turn around for you and for me. We sing so often in church on Sundays about the love of God. How much sweeter still to trust him resting in the knowledge that he is always on time. You might not like it. But sooner or later you will thank him for it. A little known beautide is the one which I am about to share. Blessed are the kept for they are always in his time. So, it is true then. The laborers are lacking for the Lord alone keeps his harvest. Behold even know they are with him, waiting for their proper time.

Whether you like it or not, believe it or not, and see it or not the gatherings are all of him. See, in every place, to which the disciples were sent the Lord had his people waiting to receive him. The disciples saw naught of Lord they had left behind. Meanwhile the people saw nothing but the face of Jesus and his coming themself. I can almost hear the disciples praying with us now: 'Lord we're standing up here all alone. There's none around us. Where are you now. You said you'd go with us wherever we went. You sent us out in your time. You promised us a harvest. Did you not also say you were God of that too. Lord, here's the laborers; now send the harvest.'
