Cockatrice Legend
In legend, the cockatrice creature is very similar to that of a fiery, flying serpent. Here it is also seen much differently. About the cockatrice, history is largely silent. It's supposed to have wings and be able to fly. At the same time, some of its' features are also serpentine but much shorter. These creatures also like certain things that are similar, for example young children who haven't much of a filter or impulse control. That is because the cockatrice's existence is bound up in flying short distances. It's basically a flying fiery conclusion rather than something to eat you. It may or may not breathe fire, of that I'm not sure. It seems then that their fire can be seen in their wings, rather than anything else. It also lays eggs like the chicken, but these eggs, it seems, should not be eaten. They contain an error, not to be confused with the offspring of the chicken, because it becomes something that will eat you instead. Perhaps their full use can be seen in the cock which crowed thrice when Peter denied our Lord. I'm quite sure the creature looked forward to that moment to fulfill the words of the Lord. As you and I both know well, most roosters do not crow at night. Therefore, this creature is something entirely different possessing behavior that is just out of the ordinary.
And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
Isaiah 11:8
Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.
Isaiah 14:29
They hatch cockatrice' eggs, and weave the spider's web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper.
Isaiah 59:5
For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, saith the LORD.
Jeremiah 8:17
