Bringing In

11/09/2024

And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

20 And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.

21 So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.

22 And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.

1 Kings 6:19-22

Here's the very worst thing of all. The text makes it clear that this oracle made up the innermost holy of holies, where the priests would have gone to sacrifice before the altar of the Lord. I suspect it was made of stone at first, though the text doesn't say. It's very likely given the length, height, and the width that Solomon did this part just as he did everything else. The shape you're looking for though, is a perfect cube that is as the name suggests, quite tall. In fact, it's 20 cubits times 20 cubits times 20 cubits all the way around. That's after all the other stuff has been added in though as at first. It's also designed to sit right at the front of the house. You'll see why I'm discussing this here in a minute. Calculate it with me to see how wide this is in feet.

360

So, we see, the cube is 360 inches in length, width, and height. Can someone say, God's good the whole year? That's how many days are in the year though, or at least that's what people say today. Maybe they're wrong though, who knows. If they are, how would you know much less find out? Perhaps the calendar of the stars might be able to tell us that we did at first. What would happen if you totaled all the days up? Does it say or are there some gaps in understanding left in between? I don't understand how tall 360 inches is though. I could either do one of two things. I can take 12 inches and divide it into the 360 here or I could just multiply 15 feet times two. If you paid attention, this is roughly double the sum of the thing we discussed last in the text.

30

At last, you've got a wall that totals 30 feet high. This is starting to sound rather uncomfortable like something else that we know. If you can figure what that is, please avoid shouting answers out. It goes back to what we discussed before with Solomon's temple being a symbol of before the rebellion fell.
