Borne Unto Hope

7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Hebrews 4:7-10
I do not know about what your feelings are now in the text. But I find it most fascinating to see how it speaks on in David from here. I am sure I would have picked a different mouthpiece if I were the Lord, which I am not, so then is he righteous in whatever he does. Make no mistake. Perhaps things might not look it at first. See, the stock market's crashing, the economy's fallen, so then all that remains are the hopes of all men. Might well it have been said of the Lord to look towards the city of the great King and towards the hills then beyond. For it is there our help comes and that of no other, is it not my friends? Then too I just love what it says from here on much later. How many of you know the forefathers of lore. Then again, how many know what they say of the Lord. They have got an awful lot to say of him since you are listening, really. They speak of all that and more, that has been said of the Lord. Just maybe you like them cannot see it just yet. Still, that does not mean that we should neglect ought of the Lord. Not seeing the hope in which we speak is hardly the same as living it really. Then again though would we not be given grace for grace. It takes one to know one, from here a little, there a little, one line to the next, until all of our hope now rings with the Lord. Nor does it sound as some church bells do from certain lofted steeples as empty and vain. It is not for nothing then that we have hope in the Lord. For as 1 Corinthians 13 says where love makes it all visible. Though by faith we can see it afar and so the invisible is made known of the Lord. Therein does love remain as the one which fits up most of the building and so of the house and into the next. Else would not have faith and hope fled as those expecting ought from the Lord. Saying in David though is a mighty long time. Does it not help you remember too that even before Abraham thus saith the I am of the Lord. Yet the invitation extends to David, though a few steps removed from death then itself. Not that I am calling David then as unto death. But you know the funny thing really is seen in this at the first how often that David came by God's mercy and graces then instead. Might well you remember his approaching the table of shewbread as though taking ought from the Lord. Here was he himself allowed then to happen. For the same God who called us also sustains all our life. It seems odd and maybe a little bit strange that the repetition as one that has forgot thus will come in. Noticed how the todays are repeated so oft of the Lord. See, the hardening which comes on after as them that had lost the way so often or been led then astray. Yet notice what will happen should we but come to the Lord. Here the picture is given, almost as one to which Jesus in his feeding the thousands so often does minister. Then too, had he not place for a bed nor yet anywhere really to lay his fine head. So then, he being the life came not to minister unto but to minister, to give his life a ransom for many. Having then not hardly any rest yet to offer, it seems these would have had to look for another day then, even that of his resurrection. Now is this perhaps not the day to which such as this came. But herein it should be seen through the day of the Lord. Could it be all our struggle and strivings for the rightings of wrongs, that we are really just as little lambs lost in search of the Lord. So then let us seek as those that make for his peace and so too his rest to seek unto Christ the love of our life and so through the door to enter and there to abide. Though not a total cessation of rest as of just yet, let us continue to hope and seek and trust in the Lord. For so was it given even being that that makes up the foundation. Having then been made our peace through the blood of his Son it seems the rest too would follow on after.
