Borne From Above
And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Hebrew 2:13-15
I do not know about you but I just love this description of Christ as seen here in the text. Something about him is just loveable is it not. Look with me closely at this if you will. If you will not, that is fine too but take heed lest you at all miss out. See, there are some blessings to which our God has given. Then too are there some places to which he has appointed. So then are the giver and the appointer therein made one. It is one thing to say on the Lord do I wait all the day long for as long as it takes, until my situation changes. I might not see it just yet I still believe. Such is an attitude of David if you will who waited all the day long patiently upon his God. Until the day broke and the shadows fled away and the hill of frankincense be seen. Somebody shout 'glory.' For is he not worthy to be praised indeed. See, it might be the shadow of a cross upon some far-off hill or the cold fingers of the grave beyond. Come now, let us see ought of the Lord. Herein does Isaiah 53:8 join in the witness of the testimony. It picks up the refrain with the tale of the man cut off from the land of the living in the prime of his days. Sure, it was for our sins he did so was it not. The holy God and the unrighteousness of sin along with the inability of man to keep itself demanded payment. Yet the price itself was far too much to pay and the bitterness thereof such that none itself could bear. It was very much a situation like that of the waters of Marah and Marribah if you will. Sin when it is finished then thereof brings about our death. Should we try to escape be it any root of bitterness so small that its seeds go on and spread, the salvation so great is already gone out for us before. Jesus then as we see had no other earthly kids. Sure, God granted him a way of escape to rise on up out the grave. But the situation still remains very much one of trust in God. For this cause then does he sit until his enemies be made into his very footstool, one who sits beneath his feet being so made to serve him well. What then might you wonder of the cross and his generation being so cut off from death. How often do we say 'Lord I surrender all to you.' But do we really truly mean that or is it just something we have grown used to saying when the way is easy and the path broad. How came he then by all these children spoken of here in the text. Sure, are we not all the children of God in one way or another. Yet are not the children of the promise given him for a blessing here to be found just as Isaiah 54:1, 5 had said. By his mighty power then are all these established. See the situation might seem impossible to you. But just know that when our God is through such will not be though ever so long. For just as he had sworn by himself for there was none greater to Father Abraham in time long gone by in the text. By his power then are all these performed. Now is it seen more clearly now than ever before that our God has established himself that had given so much. Nor are these of the spiritual sort as some would think. How many know when the blessing comes, having been promised, there waits a Sarah in the shadows getting ready to laugh. It is these then that put the blessings to scorn. Remember how that Sarah in age and in bitterness having ceased to find pleasure had shown. Here is not God even able of the stones to raise up sons unto Abraham to fulfill that of the promise once given him to make his descendants as the sand and stars of the sea. So do his children also partake of his flesh and blood once shed for us and so follow him well. It should be seen that these same children too partook of flesh and blood in humanity just as the Father had said that being made flesh for us he should be poured out for all man. It might be a situation for now. The devil looks like he has had his final day, does he not and with it the promise fell. See how that Genesis tells of the serpent once done in for the tempting of man. Is there not the promise of role reversal held there within with the price being paid for their deliverance then. It is of the head of one being crushed and the heel of the other being bruised as shown in the text. Remember too the crown of thorns planted on him there at the cross. With it, the power of sin fell, death having won. But the story was not over nor the victory done. Perhaps you have heard that the way up is so often found in following the one down. Nowhere more than ever is this true. It is in his obedience then to death for sin and the cross that the power fell. For by this same right then picked he his life back up all over again and with it the children also fallen through one and the same. See has not the way now become one of the crown. How many of you have heard the old saying 'winner takes all.' Herein is the power of death found and so the fear of it as well. Now tell me, was it not for this that man fell. So too did many sacrifice their all in hopes of bearing the crown. Within the pages of the blessed book it is written, having so found being tempted of God. Yet is now something more glorious than that to be seen in the text. Might well you have heard that the path to wisdom so often starts with the fear of the Lord. So too does our deliverance begin and end with him as well. It is a perspective very much like that of Isaiah on seeing the scene, marching into the throne room of God with his mouth all undone. How I would like to usher you into the more of the Lord. But for now, has the appointment fallen and the promises with it as well. Some of should rather seek him instead, than to be tempted of him thereof, and so fall from them then as well.
