Blessed in the Gates
Song of Solomon 7:1-4
How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince's daughter! the joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman.
Ephesians 6:15 refers to the feet fitted with the protection "of the gospel of peace." Good God, some of you pull your minds back from out of the gutter. God had made goodness and mercy to follow after you in Psalm 23:6. They are like two hound dogs of Heaven not for you to be dragged by them headlong. Some of you need to attend your therapy classes with a little bit more frequency. Your therapist is trying to teach freedom, restraint, and Godly leadership here. Now there is nothing wrong with enjoying the woman of Genesis 3:12 that God has given you. That is a trap of the devil just to get everybody fighting again. If you will remember before, the Song found herself in a situation in which she had washed and dressed herself. When she went out after her beloved, she found herself set upon by the watch of the city. But when you let God and your spouse dress you, as did the Song her Solomon, the results are beautiful indeed. See, he put some shoes on those feet and a song in her mouth. The providing of a Godly man for his woman is good indeed no matter what season is faced.
But to get there, some of you had to go through some things. The therapist would tell more, but there is such a thing as patient-therapist confidentiality, so I will have to let the office walls tell the tale. See, the little Song's thighs tell where her feet have been with all that chafing. Some of you like to speak of a thigh gap, but the Song had none. You know, she had been climbing upon the mountains and the dens of the wild animals with good news of the gospel of peace. Without the shoes of Isaiah 52:7, her feet would have been in bad shape indeed. But because God and her Solomon have given her a ministry and a message, she wants not even for shoes. You might be wondering how this thing could be. There has been "a cunning workman;" for indeed, God is doing something here in this situation. It is important to see the created order of God, Solomon, and then the Song. The message is the Lord's. But God is as the master workman. Then we ourselves are "created in Christ Jesus unto good works" of Ephesians 2:10. But now her Solomon has been quite cunning indeed in shaping their couple's ministry.
Thy navel is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor: thy belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies.
My, Solomon is a smooth talker. I can hear some of you saying, 'tell me more.' It is little wonder he found himself promoted to this position in which he finds himself. It is by his tongue and with his God that he prospers. Even this though must be submitted unto the control of God. It is wonderful to speak of the super on the natural, but we should also know of the self in his control. The little Song 's navel is compared to "a round goblet" for it is even as the cup of wrath in the hand of the Lord poured out upon the world. How many of you know there is a connection between the sacred and the profane. The only thing which separates the two is your behaviors. For these led to the woman of Babylon 's destruction as seen in Revelation 18:9-10. This is why Solomon must move from the navel to the belly in which the seed takes root and grows. This also contains many seeds, even those of babies which can either be a blessing or a trial. For contained there are the roots of bitterness from Hebrews 12:15. That is why you must be careful what sorts of seeds you sow in Luke 8:5-15 and how they are thrown. The little Song has been through blessings, trials, and tribulations.
But it is important to see that she is not bitter nor is she barren as some of you are wanting to think. See, the word of the Lord she has eaten along with her Solomon has taken root indeed. With his leadership it has turned into wheat in her belly fit to feed many. So also, the lilies of the daughters of Zion crowd around her. They do this because the best food is found amongst good wheat. If there were weeds and tares therein, the daughters the lilies would soon be choked by the cares of this life and wither away. This is why it is important for some of you to keep your bellies and all other things under your control carefully. It as with everything is a process for which you must trust God. Now I know speech such as this makes some very uncomfortable indeed. But if Solomon spoke like a theologian or a professor at a prestigious seminary, would you have understood him any better? This is why it takes some spiritual sight and understanding to see these things. Solomon also wrote many other books, but we read Proverbs and think 'my what a lovely collection of wise sayings.' Then we read Ecclesiastes and think, 'my isn't he clinically depressed.' But then we come to the Song and her Solomon and find it all makes sense through the eyes of love even with faith and hopes help in 1 Corinthians 13:13.
Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins.
This is how the young roes or lilies are fed. But there is some progression seen here. The breasts are indeed Solomon's. For if the belly is for the lilies, the chest is also for Solomon as his crown. Now some of you might be saying, 'I find those to be a test and trial not a crown at all.' Look what is borne from them even as small children take root at the breasts. These are two young roes which are even as the Song and her Solomon – twins. Some of you have this attitude that cares not whether your spouse is fed, nourished, or on time. You are like, 'they have made me mad, so I don't care if they sleep all day, are late, and go hungry. They will just have to fend for themselves.' My friends, God is not like that at all. He loved the church of Ephesians 5:25 even as the husband and the wife ought to relate to one another. How did Christ love the church but to become one with her even in the form of a man. Then he joined her in her journey through the down here until we one day get called up there. The therapist would be most upset to hear of this. Here Solomon turned to the Song and says, 'you are my twin.' So, without the one, the other also would not be fed. They go together like peanut butter and jelly on bread or as baby deer to their mothers. It is a spiritual principle of 'I'm not better than you, but we are equal.' Never mind Mary's lamb following her all day long. These two twin deer spouses follow the Lord as they do their mother. So, one without the other in Hebrews 11:40 would not be made complete. This is why the body cannot function by itself according to Romans 12:4-8. Nor can the husband live without the wife; nor also could Christ be without the church.
Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: thy nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.
Now before some of you say that Solomon's tongue has gotten carried away and is now babbling nonsense, let us look again at what he is saying. Some of you might like to interpret the towers, fish pools, gates, noses, and more towers. These also are not to be taken by themselves but rather together as a whole landscape. My, Solomon must tire of saying what a wonderful woman she is in so many ways. See, Proverbs 31 says her husband could go out to the gates of the city and be praised for the works of her hands. This is also as the man which woke up in his strong tower in the morning, went fishing for lunch, came back to the city in time for dinner, and was well respected as he ruled among the people. Even from the city gates to the lands faraway, was there blessing because of the hand of the Lord and the dealings of his Song. See, had she responded to what happened as some of you on Lifetime might, none of this would be the case. This is why it is important to submit your responses to the Lord.
Had the Song picked up the sword or gone to slay many in the Spirit, she would have had vindication, yes. But these people would neither be blessed nor fed. There would have been no peace even among all their lands. This is why the Lord would not do to the people what he would even until the days of Solomon's children. It is due to the work of his father David and Solomon's love for the Lord. Only God could bring great good from all that had happened. All those circumstantial things you keep complaining about are but tools in the hands of God. They are doorways into something greater than you could ever know, think, or imagine. This is why we give him glory and praise even unto the crowns of the ages cast at his feet. This is who God is. He brings beauty from ashes and a Song from the night of Job 35:10. Some of you really ought to say 'amen' because if you only knew where God had brought you from. See, you do not even know where he was leading you to - even from a long way. He will soon make all the days praise his name.
