Behemoth Legend
There is a description of a Behemoth given in Job 40:15-24. I will let you read and then you can tell me all about it.
15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
Here the behemoth is seen as a large, rather over-sized beast of the field. It appears to enjoy grazing on grass in the pasture much like the cattle do yet at the same time is strong enough to draw out the things that move earth. Where it's strength is would be the same as that of a cow: in the rump, rear, and upper part of the hind legs. It makes sense for enough for a beast of burden, right? This a creature would also have to have an unusually strong belly to pull such heavy loads as a work-animal of God. You might wonder why I call it that. It appears that only the maker of such a creature can either bring a sword near it to harm him or to put him to good use. It sounds almost like a beast of burden doesn't it, only with a tail. Those of you that know a thing or two about the dinosaurs, try not to call out the difference if you do. It you don't, that's okay too.
All the muscles of this creature are strong even down to the sinews to which it has been made. So, there is a tail to be seen, one as long almost as a cedar tree with probably the same result. You know how some little puppies do, wagging their tails when they're happy, leaping, and jumping for joy. I would rather hate to see one of these leviathan creatures wagging its' tail like a puppy dog, wouldn't you? Just imagine the harm this thing could cause. The bones of this creature are also quite unique. There's iron in them which usually is reserved for, oh I don't know, something supernatural. I know of no creatures on earth who have much of anything in the way of brass or iron in their bones. If you think of it, the inside of this creature sounds much like a prison.
Most all other creatures have bones which makes blood cells from the marrow and the calcium and other minerals found in the structure deep within. Yet at the same time, despite what's inside, it lives to serve God. Then too are there delights to be found for the Creator cares for the life of his beasts. The behemoth prefers to lie under cool shady places such as by rivers and other places where trees often grow. Then again, there is almost something supernatural about the way this water buffalo drinks. 'Water buffalo,' you say, 'surely not.' Well, maybe it would if the water buffalo were just a smidge larger. Notice how this creature's trust is in God, its' maker and sustainer. Imagine, facing each century, each test, and each trial with the certainty that in them is God himself. So surely will he triumph, that the One who has made such a creature, cannot resist coming back to check up on it.
