Basis of Society

It's what separates man from animals, order from chaos, and the kingdom of God from that of the fallen. Animal society is governed in large part by behavior, that is pre-conditioned responses to stimuli. These stimuli can drive almost anything that happens from hunger to flight and even migration. Sure, animals can communicate with each other and to a certain extent between species. When is the last time you saw an animal pick up a phone to text someone, find a good book to read down at the library, or even work to survive.

Sure, beavers build dams and the birds their nests. Yet the fact still remains that man is higher than them. Even going back a few thousand years to the time when man dwelt in caves, there was still evidences of society. There were paintings for instance left in the caves. The Dead Sea scrolls and other ancient manuscripts remaining are all proofs of society and the authenticity of it. See, back then gathering materials to mix paints took a lot of time and work. So also did the earliest form of primitive living, hunting and gathering. It still exists in many parts of the world for its ease and simplicity rather than a lack of society. But that is a topic for another day.

Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden for all intents and purposes would be considered a primitive society. Yet God's command to dress the garden and keep it along with the one given to name all the animals suggests otherwise. Perhaps, we need to redefine our meanings of the word primitive. They had law and they had order. These two things make a society. That and an ability to provide for yourself, of course. Due to whatever situation, that might look slightly different. If it takes the form of daily living, that's ok. No one's judging. Speaking of creation though, an animal's society is strictly different.
