Are We Not
John 10:29-30
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one."
The doctrine of the Trinity is in part based on Jesus's statement, "I and the Father are one." If the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit are the same person why are the three roles differentiated in Scripture? First, they are not existing as separate people who are equally God. In that case, let me take Krishna, Allah, and Buddha and call them equally god. Somebody is going to be left out. Let me give them different names and see if you still feel the same way. If so, that makes Jesus a liar; he said he and the Father are the same in this verse. To quote another, 2 Philippians 2:6-7 states that Jesus is God in human form and that he "thought it not robbery to be equal with God." If you have seen him you have "seen the father" also according to John 14:9. If that were not so, he would be a big fat liar in no time. Make sure your theology does not make God into a liar for that is one thing he cannot do in Numbers 23:19 and Hebrews 6:18. Let me ask further, why do you have a body, mind, and a spirit? Is your spirit not you but still a part of you? Is your body walking around without your mind? Is your mind making decisions and telling your body what to do from another part of the world or do I need to take you to the mental hospital? Obviously, the divine nature is one. James 2:26 states that the body without the spirit is dead. Do you serve a living or a dead God? Did he rise from the grave or not? So, your Christian life without his Spirit is dead because "without faith it is impossible to please" God in Hebrews 6:11. Might this distinction have been made so we could understand God better? Could not the relationship between the three parts of God have been emphasized to better show the relationship between God and us.
