Origins

- Aloe species

- May cut off outer edges of leaf and inner membrane to separate the gel for oral use

- Whole leaf use recommended for topical applications

- Africa, tropic, and Arabia designations

Preparations

- Fever, pain, inflammation uses

- Heart rhythm and blood thinning actions noted in restoring the balance

- Lowers potassium when taken orally

- Side effects of skin sensitivity, rashes, upset stomach, and loose stools

- Can be taken internally in lower doses

- Toxic at doses of 1 gram daily with renal effects noted

- Combinations with myrrh and cassia for best results

- Topical applications for long-term relief of joint, muscle pain, and treatment of minor wounds

- Gel only recommended for internal use
