A Spirit of Muteness

11/10/2024

As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.

33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel

Matthew 9:32-33

Problem: This man had a spirit of muteness.

Symptoms: It is called a 'dumb' spirit because it wouldn't allow him to speak. It likely impeded relations between others and himself by a lot. More than likely the spirit's strength lay not in its' powers but rather the ability to torment had left the man silent and 'dumb.' In this way he was kept a prisoner of his own mind unable to let any in or allow himself to go out. In this way, the man remained trapped, and the spirit kept its' power.

Treatment: The spirit had to go since it only impeded the man's progress. When being cast out, the man could regress back to the past moment the spirit had entered. Say if it happened at a moment of death, the man would be left helpless close to death's door once again. The only thing then that is needed for the spirit and the life to remain is for the man to take action. This can start first in the mind then with the mouth as one talks of and walks with the Lord. Without the man taking action and the spirit's lack of response, it probably is one of torment and thus its' presence isn't taken lightly.

Prognosis: When the spirit of voice is cast out, the man is likely to make a full recovery or only partial depending on his willingness to participate.
