Beersheba

11/02/2024
Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD in Mizpeh.
Judges 20:1

And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
1 Kings 19:3

And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba, and brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man's left hand at the gate of the city.
2 Kings 23:8

They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, the manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
Amos 8:14

Well, merciful goodness, can you guess who it is? There’s Beersheba come back all grown up again. Only this time, it’s used in a colloquialism or an expression as the saying goes. They said ‘from Dan to Beersheba’ probably because they meant it. Thus, from the northern end of the kingdom to the southern end, things were alright with everyone there. Beersheba at this time has come to mean a refuge and a provision found in the desert. Granted, it wasn’t a literal desert but still one barren of land. Dan on the other hand has earned quite the reputation for not quite being all there and in danger of becoming one with the rest. Thus, from without the world to the provisions of the next they were all there as the saying went. Judah also retained it’s former place, having come into possession of where their forefather had once trod. It’s also not surprisingly, very near to where Joshua the leader lived. I told you everything would fit in quite neatly, right next to each other. Perhaps not quite so near together as that, but still.
