Chezib
11/02/2024
And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.
And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.
Genesis 38:1, 5
Speaking of places that aren’t on the map, this one Chezib really takes the cake so to speak. Judah here has really gone on a walk. His walk took him so far that he at times he didn’t recognize anyone, not even the Lord, quite literally. It’s not wonder why Chezib never made it to the map though, cause it’s not like a very pleasant place to be. Perhaps it’s not listed because Judah has wandered away along with his friend. The only indicators of where he has been are those of the times of that land. He is in Canaan for sure, but it’s a very large place. Probably we can’t tell for sure who the Abdullamites were either due to the passage of time and the weather. This is where the story gets strange. You know, when places don’t remain on the history books long there’s bound to be reason. In some cases there’s famine or wars that have changed the shape of the land. What’s happening with Joseph down in Egypt though will prove to be crucial. Maybe you remember the tale of the famine that was had in the land. Joseph’s brothers roamed far in search of the food. Their quest led them all the way down to Egypt you see straight into the arms of their brother who’s waiting. In the process of time, the famine lasted for nearly seven whole years throughout most of the world that is known. Then the brothers became whole tribes just like Judah did here even though they served the Egyptians for a number of years. By the time the tribes finally made it out under Moses, it had been quite a long time.Probably the famine that came in the land affected their relatives and close friends the Canaanites themselves. With those events, times have moved on and memories get erased. Anything’s bound to change in that span, up to and including the lay of the land.
